#ThursdayTreeLove is a photo feature on Parul Thakur’s blog and is hosted on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month.
I’m delighted to be taking part in Parul’s series because as some of you know, I am a lover of nature and I regularly take photos of trees.
This photo was taken last September in Belleek forest in Ballina Co. Mayo – actually just inside the gates of Belleek Castle
If trees could talk (maybe they do) this is what I think the sycamore tree would say to me!
The Amazing Sycamore Tree
I watch you nearly every day
Strolling along the forest path
You often stop and stare awhile
I know my beauty makes you smile.
Perhaps today you’ll sit with me
With me, the amazing sycamore tree.
Come sit against my peeling trunk
There’s a little spot here just for you
Upon the twigs and creeping ivy
And golden leaves of vibrant hue.
I’ll shade you from the September sun
And shield you from the autumn breeze
You can sit and watch the peeping squirrels
The singing birds and buzzing bees.
Close your eyes, stay very close
Listen very clear
Let me tell you what I know
Let me whisper in your ear.
I have stories to tell and secrets to share
Myths about Goblins and truths that will scare.
I know all the fairies that live in the trees
They play and they frolic, they laugh and they tease.
The ghosts of Belleek are wandering free
Concealed behind cloaks of invisibility
The spirits of nature caress and beguile
They slow down your mind and help you to smile.
My weary leaves alas are dying
No longer safe from a gusty gale
Softly falling to the ground
To find their place on the woody trail.
I hope tomorrow you’ll come again
And spare some time to sit with me
Bring some friends and let them see
Me, the amazing sycamore tree.
Wow! Loved to hear the thoughts of you Sycamore… And what an amazing old tree.. So much character… I think it has many more secrets that it has let out in the poem.. 🙂 This is in Ireland, right?

That is such a gorgeous tree and that picture does full justice to what your eyes would have seen. I love it!

Thank you Parul. I’ve been taking photos of trees with you in mind ever since. I shall go through them and submit again. Been keeping a bit quiet on my blog recently. New mojo!! 😉

Beautiful poem. I think it’s so sad when you see big areas where tree felling takes place – we need trees and they have so much history!

Thanks Rachael. I love trees and yes it is awful when they get chopped down. Although I think a lot of the time new trees are planted in their place. Thanks for reading!

I am definitely a lover of trees and nature. Years ago and back in NZ I planted over 1000 of them, mostly Olive trees. The new owners haven’t chopped them down which is excellent!! I love the massive trees on this side of the world. 🙂 Lovely poem Gloria.

Thanks Suzanne. I think trees are amazing. I’ve never seen an Olive tree in real life. 1000…..wow!

They are one of my favourite trees. We planted oaks and lots of native trees on the property as well. Then when we moved into town on a smaller property I grew fruit trees along the fences.

I loved this poem. It reminded me of my childhood love of trees. Climbing in them, just sitting in them and sometimes just sitting underneath them appreciating the shade while I read a book.
