Mushroom Spotting in Drummin Wood

If you know me you’ll know that I love nature. There’s nothing as refreshing as a walk on the beach or a stroll through the woods. I love all the seasons but Autumn is my favourite; for many reasons. I love the crispy morning air, the cool temperature, weaning myself back into my winter woolies and warm boots.

An Autumn wood is always beautiful. The earthy smells are so invigorating and uplifting. The damp fallen leaves have their own scent too; sweet and sometimes musky. Even the trees have their own unique smell!

Last weekend we took a walk in Drummin Wood, which is located between Foxford and Pontoon R318 (Co.Mayo). The first thing I noticed was the wood’s natural beauty. It’s untouched; pure and authentic!

Aromatherapy and Meditation

With so many distractions nowadays, even the experienced meditation lovers can sometimes find it hard to relax and focus. Appropriate use of essential oils during meditation or yoga can make relaxation easier and can help to expel unwanted emotions or thoughts. Base note oils that are extracted from trees or grassy roots are most often used for grounding and are known as ‘Root Chakra’ oils. Some of these essential oils also contain a high percentage of chemicals that are known to have a tranquilising effect on the brain. They act as natural sedatives and mood enhancers.

Self-Care is Simple!

Self-care is extremely important for your health and well-being. Too often, people wait until they are sick or under a lot of stress before they think about looking after themselves. What does self-care mean anyway?

It simply means putting your own needs first. Regularly doing things that are beneficial for your mind and body; every day if necessary!

Prevention is always better than cure and just because you feel good and life is treating you kindly, this doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t indulge in treating yourself to a little bit of ‘me time’ now and then. If you lead a stressful life or suffer from worry or anxiety, then self-care for you is even more important. Get into the habit of doing things for yourself every day!

For those of you who are not in the habit of putting yourself first, then it’s time you started. Look at it this way – if you don’t take care of yourself, then who is going to do it for you? It’s your responsibility to take care of your own body, mind and spirit.

Angels Dancing with Andrew.

A big hello to you all and a special thank you to Gloria for inviting me as a guest blogger. I’m bowled over by the kindness and support I’ve received from people in the Holistic field.
I’ve certainly had an adventurous life so far – it’s been anything but boring, something I appreciate, as I dislike drudgery or monotony.
The angels have always figured in my life since I was a child. I was fascinated by their otherworldliness, gentleness, kindness and sense of humour. wp-1479468927426.jpg

However, it was as an adult that things began to take off. I had the odd experience of them when I was in the Franciscans for several years. One time I awoke to see two pillars of light at the bottom of my bed. They were both golden or yellow in colour but one was thicker than the other. I instinctively knew they were my angels and said hello to them before falling back to sleep.

The Mother of all Meditations.

How many times have you tried meditation? Are you getting better at it? Or do you feel like you will never get the hang of it? Are you easily distracted while meditating?

Maybe your mind constantly wanders into yesterday or tomorrow no matter how many times the voice tells you to, ‘Bring your mind gently back if you feel it wandering.’

I think most of us have concluded that meditation is a deeply relaxing exercise that promotes a healthy mind. It calms down our churning thoughts, giving our brain a chance to rest.

But meditation doesn’t come easy to everyone, especially beginners. Well, listen up all you beginners and over-active thinkers…….. I have discovered the mother of all meditations! Sound Meditation Baths. No, it has nothing to do with having a bubbly bath with soft music playing in the background – much better than that. Oh yes!
