Christmas is a time for nostalgia and tradition. Traditions are an opportunity for us to create long lasting memories, and the smells that surround us at Christmas time plays a part in creating these memories. The link between our sense of smell and our memory is the reason why the many different aromas that waft through our homes around Christmas time, has the power to evoke memories of Christmas past.
Because we all have different experiences and memories, we all have different preferences when it comes to smells. Therefore, it is important that we surround ourselves with scents that make us feel good and remind us of happy times.
Aromatherapy with the use of essential oils, is one of the easiest and most natural ways of evoking happy memories. They also have the added benefit of relaxing, uplifting or energizing you at the same time. Mix and dabble with these wonderful oils to create your ideal Christmas fragrance.

Ireland isn’t well known for hot summers, but it hasn’t been too bad in the last couple of years. But as we all know, we don’t need a heatwave to cause sunburn and skin damage. We also don’t need scorching sun to be plagued by flies and creepy crawlies. (The spiders are getting bigger every year!) Here’s how I use my essential oils to deal with this.
The essential oils that I wouldn’t be without during the summer months are; lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus), lavender (Lavandula angustifolia), eucalyptus smithii (Eucalyptus smithii), peppermint (Mentha piperita) and patchouli (Pogostemon cablin).

From the day we are born, until the day we die, we go through transition and change. At a young age we learn to deal with personal changes on a physical, emotional and spiritual level. Change is often necessary for our growth and development, but when it comes in the form of tragedy or trauma, it’s not as easy to make the transition.
Autumn is often known as the season of transition but change can come upon us at any time of the year. Winter, like any other season, can bring with it many changes and because it is viewed by some of us as the most miserable time of the year, it can be harder to cope with the curve balls that come our way.
The changing of the seasons is a good time to reflect on whether we are resisting a shift in our lives. Aromatherapy used in conjunction with other self-care practices can help us to adapt and move forward.
